From the Bulleid Society's newletter: "The Wadebridge Group, owners of No. 34007, WADEBRIDGE have produced an illustrated 'tour' through the life of their locomotive entitled Out of the Mists of Time, from Brighton to Bodmin, the story of WADEBRIDGE in Pictures. The forty eight page A5 size volume is well produced with a comprehensive selection of photographs from the naming of the locomotive in 1945, through her SR and BR days to her current restored condition." |

From Heritage Railway "Off the Shelf" Book Review section of HR issue 104: "Here is an excellent biography of the latest Bulleid Pacific to return to steam, one which has been pleasing crowds at the Mid-Hants Railway this year and more recently at the Bluebell Railway's Giants of Steam event, and which is booked for the Great Central's January steam gala. The booklet includes 90 black and white photographs and a colour centre-spread, documenting its Southern Railway and Region days, its rescue from Dai Woodham's scrapyard by the Plym Valley Railway Association and its 25-year restoration, which ended at the Bodmin & Wenford Railway, where it is likely to briefly return at Easter. It would be superb if every preserved locomotive could have its own biographical ready reference booklet produced to this high value-for-money standard." |

From Stephen Austin, railway author: "Is there anything more to be said about the Southern Railway 4-6-2 "Bulleid Pacific" locomotives? Yes there is, because the individual stories of those still with us are more varied, even bizarre, than the well-documented accounts of their short commercial careers. The story of 21C107/34007 WADEBRIDGE is here told by those who actually know it, her owners. It is subtitled 'the Story in Pictures', so most of the content comprises a selection of no fewer than 94 photographs, giving a remarkably complete coverage of the story: only one would your reviewer have removed and replaced by a view of the notorious chain-driven valve motion. A short text covers salient points about the class in general, WADEBRIDGE's 20 years' service and the 26 year restoration project. There are no technical details, a few would have been welcome, but of course they are available elsewhere, and the book had to be designed to a size and aimed at the widest possible readership. It is superbly written, free from grammatical solecisms, and the only error is a claim that she was the last locomotive to receive a General repair at Eastleigh. (She was the last original 'West Country' to do so). Design and production are top quality. The compiler, Peter Richards, is to be congratulated on producing a nicely balanced introduction to the locomotive and the Company. Every preservation project which hopes to win public support should have a book like it." |
