Andrew Pepper has provided details of a journey he made
behind 34007 back in 1964.

Andrew Pepper, who is actively involved in the restoration of an L&SWR coach, has sent details of a journey behind
Wadebridge that he made when he was 13. At that time Andrew was living
in Weymouth and saw Wadebridge frequently. She was, he says his
favourite flat-top! Andrew also took the photographs on this page, with a
Brownie camera so the quality is not quite up to today's standards.

It was frequently the case that if a boat train made good time
traversing the tramway from Weymouth Dock it would be allowed to leave Weymouth
Junction as much as 10 minutes early. This was almost certainly the case on
this day, and having left early the crew made easy meat of the 1 in 50 climb
out of Weymouth (with the maximum load permitted for an unassisted light
pacific) so it is not surprising that, apart from a creditable pull up through
Micheldever, they did not make much effort to regain time lost at signals until
later in the journey - after West Byfleet.
